How to improve hypoid gears.
1. How to improve efficiency of hypoid gear?
2. How to decrease the noise of hypoid mesh?
3. How to decrease the size of the gear set and have the same running torque?
4. How to decrease manufacturing cost?
5. How to make the gear set run longer without oil?
6. How to decrease the loads on shafts and bearings in the gearbox?
DDS gives a positive answer for all the questions. Here is a rough estimate of improvement values:
1. 2-4% of improving gear mesh efficiency. (Reducing the heat generation in mesh for 50%)
2. 3-6DB noise reduction
3. Up to 50% decreasing of gearbox dimensions and 30% of gear diameter.
4. 20% reduction of tooth cutting cost on existed gear cutting equipment. Up to 60% cost reduction because of possibility to use different tooth forming methods.
5. 300% increase of the running time without oil.
6. Up to 60% decreasing the load on shafts and bearings.
The numbers above came from the experiments and DDS simulation of the gear mesh. Some experiments and computer simulations are too complex for a brief presentation. However the good thing is that there are a number of ways for improvement of existed hypoid gears. Some may look extreme and some are very simple.
Example of the extreme solution:
